World's tallest man finds love

World's tallest man finds love with woman 2ft 7in shorter than him

·  Sultan Kosen is 8ft three ins, and dwarfs his 5ft 8 ins fiance Merve Dibo
·  He also has 27.5cm hands 36.5 cm feet - a massive size 28
·  Kosen has long been searching for a woman to share his life with
·  He is one of only ten people ever to top 8 feet and the first in a decade

As the world’s tallest man, 8ft 3in Sultan Kosen despaired of finding a soulmate who would prove a perfect fit.
So the gentle giant says it’s nothing short of a miracle that he has met his love match in Merve Dibo.
And despite a height difference of 2ft 7in, Mr Kosen, 30, celebrated the biggest day of his life yesterday – tying the knot with his 20-year-old bride in his native Turkey.

The couple dance the halay, a Turkish national dance. The Turkish farmer - who at eight ft three in, dwarfs his five feet 8 in fiance - is to marry Merve Dibo in a ceremony today

Kosen, 30, has long been searching for a woman to share his life with, and had reportedly given up hope - until he met Ms Dibo

Before meeting Miss Dibo, Mr Kosen had spoken of his difficulties in finding a partner, as most potential girlfriends were put off by his size.

But yesterday the part-time farmer, who had ordered a custom-made suit and size 28 shoes for his wedding, said he was thrilled to have found ‘the person for me’.

He added: ‘It was unfortunate that I could not find a suitable girl of my own size. But now I will have my own family and private life.’

Mr Kosen, who is one of only ten people ever to top 8ft, suffers from a rare disorder called pituitary gigantism, which causes his body to continually produce growth hormones. Kosen also holds the Guinness World Record for the size of his 27.5cm hands and feet, which are recorded 36.5 centimetres - a massive size 28

The couple's wedding cake was certainly not underwhelming, towering well over the bride.
Sultan Kosen, the world's tallest man, had his head in the clouds as he married a woman nearly 2ft 7in shorter than him.
-Sultan suffers from a rare disorder called pituitary gigantism, which causes his body to continually produce the growth hormone
-He began shooting up at the age of ten, became the tallest man in the world in 2009 and finally stopped growing in 2011.
The all-time record holder was Robert Wadlow from Illinois, who died in 1940 measuring just over 8ft 11in.

Tallest man in U.S. gets life-changing custom Reeboks

Back in April, Alex Conover of the Minnesota Timberwolves' official website wrote about a trip to the Target Center taken by a unique visitor: Igor Vovkovinskiy of Rochester, Minn. who at 7 feet, 8 inches tall is the tallest person in the United States. Due to his great size, it had been years since Vovkovinskiy — who was born in the Ukraine but whose family came to Minnesota in 1989 so that he could undergo treatment at the Mayo Clinic for the pituitary gigantism that was accelerating his growth, has lived in the area since and became a Wolves fan as he grew up — had been able to fit in a regular spectator seat at the arena, so the team's front office organized accommodations for Vovkovinskiy in a special suite for a home game against the Golden State Warriors.
It was a neat human interest story about a team going the extra mile for a fan, made notable by the unique stature of that particular supporter ... which, as you might expect, has made stuff like finding shoes that fit a lifelong struggle:
"I tried basketball," said Vovkovinskiy, "But after 5th or 6th grade, nobody could make shoes for me. I had to stop playing."

Vovkovinskiy has undergone 16 foot surgeries, resulting in a total of three years of bedrest. His current shoes, although functional, are terribly inadequate for his needs.
"This is basically it," said Vovkovinskiy, pointing to his worn-down, black leather shoes. "They have no support, no grip. On the ice, these things are basically suicide. They're flat, and they don't have any curve. It's incredibly hard to walk on them."

On Thursday, Vovkovinskiy received what could be a life-changing gift: several pairs of custom-made sneakers, molded specifically for his size 24 10E feet, that will enable him to walk in the world comfortably for the first time in years. The shoes — which feature the Tryzub Cross, a Ukrainian symbol, and say "IGOR" on the back and soles — reportedly cost $25,000, were designed, produced and delivered to Vovkovinskiy by Reebok, which covered the whole bill.

From Mike Dougherty of the Rochester Post-Bulletin:
"Wow!" he said [as he tried on the shoes.] "It feels so good, like I'm walking on pillows or mattresses." [...]
"I'm going to be able to go to the store for groceries or the hardware store if I need to fix something at my mom's house," he said.

Reebok took imprints of Vovkovinskiy's feet to mold the shoes exactly.
Thursday's delivery came at the end of a process that began more than five months ago, around the time of Vovkovinskiy's Target Center visit. He'd been looking for solutions to his footwear problems for years, since his condition began affecting the size of his feet to the point where he required surgeries, the recovery from which necessitated bed rest, which he told Rodrique Ngowi of The Associated Press has left him largely homebound for years:

"Living the last six years has been a nightmare basically," he said.
Shoes that fit will get him outside and make a huge difference, he said.
"Basically, I'm a prisoner of my own house, even though I am medically cleared to walk," Vovkovinskiy said. "Where am I going to go with shoes that are painful?"
Over the years, multiple doctors told Vovkovinskiy "it'd be a lot cheaper to make shoes that'd fit his body than to keep having surgeries," but despite the physicians' input, insurance companies repeatedly denied his requests for financial help in covering the cost of custom-made shoes — $16,000, to be exact.
Reebok employees measure Vovkovinskiy's feet.
Seeking a solution, Vovkovinskiy started a Facebook fundraising campaign to try to get enough cash together for the shoes; after word of his plight spread via social media, news reports and television coverage, donations flooded in, giving him double the necessary amount and even resulting in footwear maker Reebok offering to offer to set him up for free. They flew him from Minnesota to their Canton, Mass., offices in May, scanned his unique feet and created custom molds for the sneakers, then covered the cost of producing the one-of-a-kind items.
"For so long it hurt to have shoes on," Vovkovinskiy told Dougherty of the Post-Bulletin. "Every day I was in pain. I want to be active again and walk. I can barely walk two blocks now. Before, I could walk two miles."

Now that he'll be able to get out of the house more easily and travel comfortably, maybe he'll be able to show off his prized possession from the Reebok haul:
Maybe his favorite pair will be the Minnesota Timberwolves color pair. Vovkovinskiy said he might save those to wear to a T-Wolves game.
That might not be a bad idea. I hear Minnesota's looking for another big man these days.

Tallest Man a live in the world is Sultan Kösen, Turkey, 8'3" (2.51 m)

The 2010, 2011 and 2012 editions of Guinness Book of World Records lists Sultan Kösen (born 10 December 1982) as the tallest living man in the world as well as having the largest hands (11.22 inches, 28.5 centimeters) and largest feet (14.4 inches, 36.5 centimeters) when last measured on 8 February 2011. Kosen has been in the Guinness Book of World Records for sometime now due to his extremely tall stature. If we were to really add up his scores for the Guinness book of world records he would probably hold a few more, for the largest custom made shoes and gloves along with pants and t-shirts. Most men can buy their clothing in a department store, but it must be a little more difficult to purchase your clothes when you have to buy custom t-shirts every time you need a new one. Which could have been frequently considering that Kosen was still growing at 8'2" in 2011.

Sultan Kösen - Still Growing

According to Guinness, Sultan Kösen is the tallest living human reaching an average height of 8'1" (2,46.5 m) when measured by GWR in Ankara, Turkey, in February 2009. He takes over the title from China's Bao Xishun, who stands 'just' 236 cm. (7 feet 8.95 inches). However, Sultan Kösen was still growing and at a more recent meeting with then tallest man of the U.S. George Bell, Sultan Kösen was measured at 8 feet 2 inches tall. On 8 February 2011 Sultan Kösen was measured in Ankara, Turkey at 8 feet 3 inches (251.4 cm). Source Guinness World Records.

All you people who'd complain about physical awkwardness ain't got nothing on these two!

The world second tallest man has found love and married his bride at a traditional Mongolian wedding.

Bao Xishun, who stands 2.36 m (7 ft 8.95 in), dressed up in the traditional Mongolian gown specially designed for him.

Bao, a 56 year-old herdsman from Inner Mongolia, married 5-foot-6 saleswoman Xia Shujian after a global search for a suitable bride.

He 28-year-old bride comes from his hometown of Chifeng in northern China.

As a tradition, Bao attended an ancestor worshipping ceremony before leaving to pick up his bride who was waiting for him in the camp in front of the tomb of Kublai Khan.

A Mongolian cart pulled by two camels took Bao to the bride's camp.

The cart was followed by a limo with a sign reading "love" in front, and more than 10 cars.

The bride's attendants pretended to prevent Bao from getting into the camp, following the Mongolian tradition.

Relatives from the bride's family offered the traditional Mongolian tea to Bao and Bao accepted the tea happily, which symbolised that the world's tallest man has been accepted as son-in-law of the bride's family.

More than 2,000 people including relatives of Bao and his bride, local people and reporters witnessed the wedding.

Bao Xishun was confirmed as the world's tallest living man by Guinness World Records last year.

He overtook the previous holder, Radhouane Charbib of Tunisia, by just 2mm.

Guinness World Records say Bao was of normal height until 16 but then put on a spurt that doctors were unable to explain, reaching his full height in seven years.
